Water Pump, Circa 1955

I'll never understand Cast Steel as an acceptable material for applications involving water immersion.

Is that some sort of sump pump?

Maybe. It definately is a belt driven pump for water. I wouldn't use it for sump apps for fear of clogging the impeller.

same goes for aluminum...

Any stainless steel timeline that doesn't include the Delorean is just bogus!

But yes Ted's polishing brass the the low cost alternative!

The majority of the NE United States' water moving infrastructure is cast iron, so there are worse alternatives for you.

Since all this is about to reach its service life (about 50 years or so), civil engineers will have work for at least the next 20.

Be glad it wasn't something truly atrocious like lead.
